At The Earl of Southampton Trust, we are committed to supporting local organisations that provide valuable services to the community. One such organisation is Oasis Youth Club, an open-access youth club for young people in Titchfield and the surrounding areas.

Helping Young People Thrive in Titchfield

Oasis Youth Club opened at the Titchfield Community Centre in April 2011. It was immediately successful, drawing in large numbers of young people. Strong support was given by the local Police, and excellent staffing was provided by the newly formed charity, Y Services for Young People. Fairly quickly, Oasis expanded to two evenings a week (Juniors and Seniors) and has retained that structure to the present day.

Funding in those early days came from a variety of sources, with associated management support from the Titchfield Community Association, the official owner of the club. Then, about a decade ago, funding fell sharply, putting the future of the club at risk. It was at this point that The Earl of Southampton Trust became involved, immediately putting in the money necessary to keep Oasis in operation.

Thereafter, The Earl of Southampton Trust stepped in as a sponsor, ensuring the club could continue providing a safe and welcoming environment for young people.

“The Earl of Southampton Trust became involved at a crucial time, immediately putting in the money necessary to keep Oasis in operation. Thereafter, the Trust became a regular and vital financial sponsor.”— Peter and Julia Mills, Oasis Youth Club

Youth Development & Community Impact

During its early years, Oasis was particularly proud of its Senior Group, which helped ensure that no young person left school and became NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). Weekly forums allowed young people to discuss their progress, challenges, and aspirations, while staff remained vigilant in addressing issues of mental health and safeguarding.

Then came COVID, forcing Oasis to close for a year. When the club reopened, with immediate support from The Earl of Southampton Trust, there was a surge of young people eager to join the Junior Group, stretching the limits of available space. Sadly, the Senior Group did not experience the same level of resurgence—some former members had moved on, while new ones joined in smaller numbers. However, it is hoped that this imbalance will correct itself as Junior members transition upwards. Adjusting the age limits of both groups may help accelerate this process, ensuring that Oasis continues to support young people from the final year of primary school through to adulthood.

"Support from The Earl of Southampton Trust remains a vital element in sustaining the two groups and providing a safe space for young people in Titchfield."
