Titchfield Luncheon Club: Celebrating 55 Years

For more than half a century, Titchfield Luncheon Club has been transforming Wednesdays for older residents of the Parish of Titchfield. What began over 50 years ago as a gathering for the over‑60s has evolved into a weekly ritual, one that now supports 25 clients whose average age is an impressive 86.

Each Wednesday, members arrive at Titchfield Community Centre, some making their own way, others collected by volunteer drivers and are welcomed with coffee, biscuits, and friendly chatter before sitting down to a freshly cooked two‑course hot lunch. The food is wholesome, often made with fresh meat from the local butcher. For many attendees, this is the one time each week they meet others face‑to‑face, it is a lifeline of companionship, routine, and joy.

A Club Built on Dedication

The Luncheon Club is run by volunteers whose average age is now around 65. Their commitment keeps the club running, but rising food and fuel costs and practical challenges have made sustainability harder and there is concern about future affordability. Despite these challenges, the club remains determined to offer more than just the basics.

Our grant helps safeguard a service that is far more than a lunch. It is a community anchor, one that reduces loneliness, supports wellbeing, and honours the long tradition of neighbourly care within the Ancient Parish of Titchfield.

Looking Ahead

With a waiting list of eight people, the need for this kind of support is clear. The Luncheon Club’s volunteers remain committed to welcoming every eligible resident they can, and our funding aims to help them continue doing so with confidence.
